LIFE NIMBUS Stops at ISMET 8 Global Conference

Life Nimbus was recently presented at ISMET 8 (International Society for Microbial Electrochemistry and Technology), which took place in Chania (Greece) from 19th until 23rd of September 2022.

The Global Conference, organized by the Technical University of Crete, Ghent University and the Universidad de Alcalá, gathered several professionals in the water sector and other scientific spheres to share, reflect and debate about Electrochemistry and Technology.

Two representants of the LIFE Nimbus project, from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), attended the conference to share the project with the community.

Albert Guisasola presented ”Computational fluid dynamics as a tool to understand and mitigate mass diffusion issues in pilot-scale bioelectrochemical systems”. He exposed the core idea of the LIFE NIMBUS project and the role played by the bioelectrochemical system in the contribution of hydrogen to the biological methanation unit. He also shared how the study explores the limitations of these systems and suggests the use of computational fluid dynamics tools to understand the transport phenomena that describe the process.

Following the same lines, Oscar Guerrero presented ”Enhancing hydrogen production from real wastewater in a 150 MEC pilot plant”, in which he shared the experiments carried out in the UAB 150L pilot plant, used to design the 1m3 MEC of the LIFE NIMBUS project. In his presentation, he also commented the criteria used for the design of the 1m3 MEC and the expected results.
